Bitcoin holds near $63,000 as a strong dollar pressures gold and crypto markets
Bitcoin traded around $63,200, staying close to the $63,000 level despite a strengthening U.S. dollar that pushed the dollar index to about 100.96. The total cryptocurrency market value was about $2.25 trillion, with Bitcoin accounting for roughly $1.8 trillion, and 24‑hour trading volume near $82.5 billion.
The strong dollar also weighed on spot gold, which fell to about $4,141 per ounce, marking a decline of roughly 16 % in the June quarter—the weakest performance since Q2 2013. Central banks continued to buy gold, adding a net 41 tons in May, with Poland leading the purchases (18 tons) followed by China (10 tons), Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan adding smaller amounts.
Meanwhile, investors withdrew from spot Bitcoin exchange‑traded funds (ETFs), which saw about $8.9 billion of outflows in May‑June, the largest two‑month outflow since the products launched. The contrasting moves highlight divergent strategies: central banks increasing gold reserves for inflation protection and diversification, while crypto investors reduced exposure to Bitcoin ETFs amid market uncertainty.
