Bitcoin halving projected for April 2028
The fifth Bitcoin halving is projected to occur around April 2028, specifically targeting block 1,050,000. This programmed event will reduce the block reward from 3.125 BTC to 1.5625 BTC, effectively cutting the daily supply of new Bitcoins from approximately 450 BTC to 225 BTC.
This mechanism, embedded in the protocol by Satoshi Nakamoto, is designed to control inflation by slowing the rate at which new coins enter circulation. With over 19.8 million BTC already mined out of a maximum supply of 21 million, only about 1.2 million BTC remain to be mined, a process expected to continue for over 100 years.
While halvings influence supply dynamics, market price remains subject to external factors such as institutional adoption, regulatory changes, and macroeconomic conditions. Despite lower per-block revenue following previous halvings, network hash rates have historically remained high as miners continue to invest in hardware.
