Bitcoin investors realize $1.03 billion in profits during price pullback
Bitcoin investors realized approximately $1.03 billion in profits on October 8, 2026, following the cryptocurrency's climb above $87,000. According to data from Santiment, this represents the second-highest daily realized profit total of the year. The surge in profit-taking was largely driven by short-term holders, many of whom moved coins to exchanges.
Following this activity, Bitcoin experienced a price pullback, sliding roughly 5% to trade within a range of $80,300 to $82,500. The market volatility led to over $1 billion in liquidations, primarily affecting long positions. Data from CryptoQuant indicated that short-term holder unrealized profit margins reached 33%, the highest level since late 2024.
Additionally, wallets linked to the US government transferred more than 12,267 BTC, valued at approximately $1.01 billion, on October 8. While these coins were previously seized from a 2016 Bitfinex hacker, there is no confirmation that the government has sold the assets. On the institutional side, US-listed Bitcoin spot ETFs have seen a reversal in momentum, recording nearly $410 million in net outflows so far in October.
