Bitcoin nears $80,000 amid U.S. Treasury liquidity measures

Bitcoin has experienced a significant rally, approaching the $80,000 threshold after rising approximately 24% from its mid-week low of $64,100. This surge is attributed to several macroeconomic and market factors, including increased liquidity following the U.S. Treasury Department's announcement to increase buybacks of long-term government debt by at least double to support market stability.

Institutional demand has played a critical role, with Bitcoin ETFs recording substantial inflows. Over a five-day period ending August 21, Bitcoin ETFs attracted approximately $1.92 billion in net inflows. BlackRock’s IBIT led this trend. Analysts note that Bitcoin has effectively erased three months of underperformance relative to the S&P 500 within a 72-hour window.

Corporate holdings have also seen a dramatic turnaround. Strategy Inc (formerly MicroStrategy), led by Michael Saylor, has returned to profitability on its Bitcoin treasury. The company holds 840,447 BTC, with unrealized profits now estimated between $1.3 billion and $1.69 billion. The rally has also lifted crypto-linked equities, including Coinbase and Robinhood, as investor appetite for digital assets returns.
