Bitcoin slump drives $8.2 bn loss for Strategy and crushes AI token gains

AI-focused crypto tokens saw their July returns fall to about 3.3%, far behind real‑world asset tokens that posted a 10.7% median gain. The arrival of Nvidia's Blackwell GPUs, which can produce tokens far more cheaply, is expected to push AI token prices down further, signaling a loss of speculative enthusiasm.

MicroStrategy Inc., the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin, reported an unrealised loss of $8.22 bn for the second quarter after Bitcoin fell roughly 14%, from near $68,000 to about $58,600. The company still holds about 843,800 BTC, enough to fund more than two years of operations, but the accounting impact highlights the risk of large corporate crypto exposures.
