Bitcoin spot volume falls to 2024 lows while altcoins capture majority of Binance trades
Bitcoin’s daily spot trading volume has dropped to roughly $4.5 billion, the lowest level since 2024, after a peak of about $25 billion during the 2025 bull market. The decline follows reduced whale activity and a slowdown in long‑term holders’ net additions, which fell from around 40,000 BTC in late May to about 14,000 BTC in late July. At the same time, Bitcoin’s price has slipped more than 45% over the past year, trading near $63,700.
On Binance, altcoins now account for over 60% of total trading volume, while Bitcoin’s share has slipped to 22% and Ethereum’s to 18%. Analysts attribute the shift to traders seeking higher volatility and short‑term returns after Bitcoin’s recent price stagnation.
