Bitcoin falls below $82,000 amid rising yields and oil prices

Bitcoin has faced significant selling pressure, dropping below $82,000 and hitting its lowest level for October. This decline coincided with a massive liquidation event where nearly $1 billion in leveraged positions, mostly long, were wiped out within a 24-hour period.

Several macroeconomic factors are driving the downturn. Rising US Treasury yields, with the 10-year yield reaching approximately 5.36%, have made risk assets like cryptocurrency less attractive compared to low-risk bonds. Additionally, geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, including reports of tanker attacks near Qatar, have pushed Brent crude oil prices above $105 per barrel, fueling inflation concerns.

Further market volatility was exacerbated by the US government moving approximately 12,267 Bitcoin, valued at roughly $1 billion, from seized Bitfinex holdings to new addresses. Meanwhile, US spot Bitcoin ETFs saw substantial outflows, including approximately $487 million on a single Wednesday. Despite the bearish trend, some technical indicators, such as the Coinbase premium turning positive and certain TD Sequential signals, suggest potential areas of support or institutional interest.
