Bitcoin Whales Accumulate 66,700 BTC as Tether Faces 2028 US Regulatory Deadline

Large Bitcoin whale wallets added about 66,700 BTC over the past 60 days, marking the strongest net accumulation by this group since February 2024. At the same time, mid‑size holders (wallets with 100‑1,000 BTC) sold roughly 77,800 BTC, representing one of the largest recent outflows from that cohort.

Separately, the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency has given offshore stablecoin issuers, including Tether’s USDT, until July 2028 to comply with the GENIUS Act. Failure to meet the requirements—such as OCC registration and adherence to U.S. freeze‑and‑seizure orders—could bar the token from listing on U.S. exchanges. Market prices for Bitcoin and Ethereum showed only marginal movement following the announcements.
