Stalker from Georgia wins Grand Prix at 59th BITEF

The 59th BITEF international theater festival concluded with the Mira Trailović Grand Prix being awarded to Avtandil Varsimashvili for the Georgian production ‘Stalker’. The international jury noted that the performance engages with Tarkovsky’s existential questions at the highest level.

In addition to the Grand Prix, the ‘Jovan Ćirilov’ special award was presented to the production ‘Odbegle’ by Wafa Tababi, a collaboration between the National Theatre of Tunisia and Fabula Production. Tababi also received the Politika Award for Best Direction for her work on ‘Odbegle’, which the jury praised for its precision in costumes, music, and acting.

The international jury was led by German actor Werner Bin Dead and included director Vasil Vasilev from Bulgaria, actor/producer Kadri Ezdan from Turkey, dramaturg Molina Fotez Udovički, and costume designer Irena Belojica. In his closing remarks, Dead emphasized the importance of art as a unifying force that transcends boundaries and fosters genuine dialogue.
