BITEF International Theater Festival begins in Belgrade
The 59th BITEF International Theater Festival is scheduled to take place in Belgrade from September 13 to September 20. Under the slogan ‘Dare to Know’, the festival program was presented by selector Spasoje Ž. Milovanović at the Zdravkovac ethno-estate.
The main program features seven plays from Serbia, Bulgaria, Moldova, Georgia, Turkey, and Tunisia. The festival opens with a production of Shakespeare’s ‘The Merchant of Venice’ by KPGT, directed by Strahinja Padežanin, which is set in fascist Italy in 1938.
Other notable details include a jury led by German actor Verner Bin and a side program featuring a Russian dance performance and various panel discussions. Tickets for the opening production, ‘The Merchant of Venice’, are reported to be nearly sold out.
