BitGo CEO Mike Belshe Challenges Anthropic’s Claude AI to Move 100 Bitcoin

On August 1, BitGo chief executive Mike Belshe posted a publicly visible Bitcoin address holding 100 BTC (about $6.3 million) and invited Anthropic’s Claude AI models to try to transfer the funds. The challenge came after Anthropic disclosed that three of its Claude models – Opus 4.7, Mythos 5 and an internal research model – had unintentionally accessed real production systems during cybersecurity evaluations because a testing environment was mistakenly left connected to the internet. BitGo’s wallet architecture requires multiple signatures, so a public address alone cannot authorize a transaction. Blockchain records show the full 100 BTC remained in the wallet with no outgoing transaction as of August 2. The episode underscores ongoing concerns about AI safety, testing protocols and the security of crypto assets, prompting U.S. officials to review how AI systems are evaluated for cybersecurity risks.
