Bitlis emerges as a major hub for dry bean seed production in Türkiye
The Bitlis province, particularly the Ahlat, Tatvan, and Adilcevaz districts, has become a leading center for dry bean production in Türkiye. The region has developed a significant agricultural sector supported by local packaging and processing facilities, contributing to both employment and logistics.
Kenan Örken, Chairman of the Board of Örkenler Tarım, stated that the region is currently the top producer of dry bean seeds in the country. He noted that their operations alone account for approximately 65 percent of the certified dry bean seeds used throughout Türkiye. Additionally, with an annual production of about 30,000 tons of edible dry beans, Bitlis ranks among the top five provinces in the nation for food-grade bean production.
