Bitlis Eren University begins honey harvest and expands apiary

Bitlis Eren University (BEÜ) has commenced the honey harvest at its Bee and Bee Products Development, Application, and Research Center. The center’s operations have expanded significantly, growing from an initial 30 hives to 200 hives, utilizing both artificial and natural hives.

Beyond honey production, the center focuses on queen bee production to provide high-quality stock for local beekeepers. To support the brand value of Bitlis honey, which received a geographical indication last year, the university is conducting scientific studies to raise quality standards.

A key development includes the international accreditation of the BEÜ Science and Technology Application and Research Center Laboratory by the Turkish Accreditation Agency (TÜRKAK) across eight parameters. This allows the laboratory to perform comprehensive analyses on honey from Bitlis and other regional production centers.
