Bitlis implements unique avalanche prevention project

Authorities in Bitlis, Türkiye, are advancing a specialized Avalanche Prevention Project designed to protect the Gazibey and 8 Ağustos neighborhoods from seasonal risks. The initiative, coordinated by the Bitlis Governorship and AFAD, involves the construction of a 1,270-meter-long snow curtain and five rows of snow bridges, each approximately 35 to 45 meters long.

Bitlis Governor Ahmet Karakaya inspected the ongoing work at Dideban Hill, noting that the project is one of the first of its kind in Türkiye. The first phase of the construction is scheduled for completion by the end of December, with further stages planned for subsequent years to ensure long-term safety for local residents.
