Bitlis security report details counter-terrorism and narcotics operations
The Bitlis Governorate has released a security and public order report covering the four-month period from May to August 2026. During an evaluation meeting attended by Governor Ahmet Karakaya and local security commanders, officials detailed operations against terrorism, narcotics, cybercrime, and smuggling.
In counter-terrorism efforts, gendarmerie and police units conducted 1,011 rural operations and 13 urban operations, resulting in 25 detentions and 3 arrests. Regarding narcotics, 31 operations led to 62 detentions and 48 arrests, with the seizure of 10 kilograms of methamphetamine, 31 kilograms of cannabis, and 38 synthetic pills.
Crime statistics showed a 3% increase in the clearance rate for crimes against persons, while crimes against property decreased by 8%. Additionally, 31 operations targeting cybercrimes, including illegal betting and child abuse, resulted in 104 detentions and 68 arrests. Law enforcement also seized various firearms, including 56 pistols and 21 long-barreled rifles.
