Bitonto officials demand investigation after rodenticide found in public park
City councilors Ivan Lorusso and Onofrio Altamura have filed a formal complaint following the discovery of unprotected rodenticide baits in the Villa Comunale of Bitonto. The toxic substances were found on the ground in the city's central green space, a location frequently used by families, children, and pet owners.
The councilors have called upon the Mayor and the Local Police Command to conduct urgent inspections and increase security in the area. They noted that whether the poison was improperly placed by a professional pest control company or left illegally by third parties, the risk to public safety remains high.
Under current Ministry of Health regulations, the use of rodenticides in public areas must be restricted to protected, labeled, and inaccessible dispensers. The councilors are requesting immediate remediation of the site and a review of the protocols followed by the contracted pest control service.
