Bitonto to host culinary exchange event for Bocconotto traditions
The town of Bitonto is set to host the first edition of ‘I Borghi del Bocconotto’ on October 3, 2026. This initiative brings together three distinct Italian territories—Bitonto in Puglia, Mormanno in Calabria, and Castel Frentano in Abruzzo—to celebrate the diverse culinary traditions of the bocconotto pastry.
Organized by the ARCI OIKOS APS Cultural Association and funded by the Bari Chamber of Commerce, the project aims to use gastronomy as a tool for territorial promotion and cultural exchange. Rather than competing, the participating communities seek to build a network that highlights their unique recipes, family histories, and local heritage.
In a separate regional development, the BTM InterAzioni event recently concluded in Poggiardo, focusing on the accessibility of the Via Francigena del Sud. This project, funded by the Ministry of Tourism, aims to upgrade approximately 120 km of trails between Lecce and Santa Maria di Leuca. Planned improvements include digital tools like augmented reality, tactile QR codes, and LIS signage to ensure the historic route is accessible to all travelers.
