Bitonto waste crew recovers €1 million lottery ticket

A player in Bitonto, Apulia, matched the MillionDay numbers 2‑4‑8‑10‑51 and won a €1 million prize. The ticket‑machine displayed the message “non‑payable,” which the winner misread as a loss and discarded the slip in a shop’s trash bin.

Public waste company SANB, led by director Roberto Nicola Toscano, intercepted the garbage truck before compaction, moved the load to a specialised facility and sifted six metric tons of waste. At 05:30 a.m. on August 4, a worker found the ticket intact inside a torn bag. The winner, who chose to remain anonymous, signed a declaration agreeing to cover the search costs. SANB staff later celebrated by buying a scratch‑card that yielded a €50 prize.
