Bits of Gold investigates data breach affecting up to 250,000 users

Bits of Gold, Israel’s first licensed virtual asset service provider, is investigating a data breach that potentially exposed the personal information of up to 250,000 customers. The unauthorized access targeted a supporting data-analysis system used by the company.

While customer funds, digital assets, passwords, and private keys remain secure, the breach may have exposed sensitive data including names, national identity numbers, phone numbers, email addresses, IP addresses, bank account details, and public cryptocurrency wallet addresses. The company has engaged third-party cybersecurity experts and alerted authorities to investigate the extent of the compromise.

In response to the incident, the Israeli retail and energy company Paz temporarily halted Bitcoin purchases on its Yellow convenience store application. The vulnerability has been publicly linked to Metabase, though the specific attack path is still under investigation. The breach is part of a broader cyberattack involving a software provider used by multiple organizations globally.
