BitTorrent completes inaugural BTT token burn and brand rebrand
BitTorrent has completed its inaugural quarterly BTT buyback and burn cycle, utilizing 100% of its decentralized service revenue to repurchase and permanently destroy approximately 21.62 trillion BTT tokens. The value of the burned tokens was estimated at roughly $7.6 million at the time of the transaction.
This move is part of a broader strategic rebranding and architectural overhaul designed to integrate BitTorrent’s services into a unified Web3 and AI infrastructure. The new tripartite architecture includes the BitTorrent Mainnet for peer-to-peer content distribution, BTTInferGrid for decentralized compute services, and BTTC for cross-chain interoperability and Layer 2 scaling.
By linking service revenue directly to token deflation, BitTorrent aims to create a self-reinforcing economic model. The company intends to continue this buyback and burn program to manage token supply and align ecosystem growth with tokenomics.
