Bitwise CIO identifies Bitcoin and Zcash as key decade-long assets

Bitwise Chief Investment Officer Matt Hougan has identified three primary narratives for the cryptocurrency market over the next decade: Bitcoin as a hedge against currency debasement, Zcash for financial privacy, and a long-term tokenization super cycle involving assets like ETH, SOL, and UNI.

Hougan argues that Bitcoin serves as a defense against weakening currencies caused by government borrowing. He has suggested that the traditional four-year halving cycle is no longer the primary driver, predicting new highs fueled by institutional flows from major firms like Morgan Stanley and Merrill Lynch. A Bitwise model even suggests a potential fair value for Bitcoin of $224,000 based on sovereign debt dynamics.

Regarding Zcash, Hougan views privacy as a critical upcoming demand for businesses. Zcash recently surpassed $1,000 for the first time since its 2016 launch, reaching a $17 billion market capitalization. This growth coincides with the arrival of institutional infrastructure, such as Grayscale’s ZCSH, the first U.S. spot Zcash ETF, which held approximately $414.7 million as of early September.
