Biwako Boat Race's SG Ocean Cup Returns After 23 Years
The 31st SG Ocean Cup boat race will take place on Lake Biwa (Biwako) from August 28 to early September, marking the first SG‑level competition at the venue since 2003. The six‑day series features top Japanese racers, including prize‑ranking leader Shō Ryūta and local Shiga‑branch competitors such as Maba Takeya, Maruno Kazuki and Endō Emi, all of whom have posted strong recent results.
The event also highlights the use of new E30 gasoline fuel, first introduced at Biwako in 2023, which many riders say requires special handling and gives those familiar with the surface a tactical edge. Expectations are high for local racers to capitalize on the home‑water advantage and vie for the SG title.
