Bizkaia infrastructure: Hydrogen pipeline and tunnel noise issues

Major infrastructure developments are underway in Bizkaia, involving both energy transport and road construction.

Enagás has submitted a request to authorize a 38-kilometer hydrogen pipeline segment connecting Muskiz and Arrigorriaga. The project, valued at approximately 68 million euros, includes a branch to the Port of Bilbao. The development will affect 649 properties across eleven municipalities, including Zierbena and Muskiz. Affected landowners have a fifteen-day window to file objections regarding expropriations and easements. The pipeline will impose permanent restrictions on land use, such as limitations on plowing and planting near the 30-inch diameter steel pipe.

Separately, the construction of the Lamiako subfluvial tunnel is facing noise regulation challenges. The construction firm Interbiak has requested a temporary suspension of acoustic quality objectives for specific sections in Leioa and Getxo. Acoustic modeling indicates that noise levels in the right bank tunnel and the Artaza link will exceed established limits during certain construction phases, despite planned corrective measures. The Bizkaia Provincial Council has opened a public information period for residents and local governments to submit claims regarding this request.
