Bizzarrini GT America 2+2 prototype to be auctioned in Newport
A unique 1967 Bizzarrini GT America 2+2 prototype is scheduled to be sold at the Audrain Auction in Newport, Rhode Island, on October 2. The vehicle, which was originally presented at the 1968 Turin Motor Show, is estimated to fetch between $400,000 and $500,000.
As a one-of-a-kind prototype, the car represents a strategy by the short-lived Italian manufacturer to expand its GT lineup and appeal to the American market by utilizing a Chevrolet V8 engine. The Bizzarrini brand, founded by Giotto Bizzarrini, produced only about 140 cars before its dissolution.
The prototype features a Champagne Metallic aluminum body, magnesium wheels, and a brown leather interior. It was designed as a four-seat evolution of the 5300 GT model.
