Bjabchho community builds Nu 40 M temple to replace ageing structure

A new three-storey temple is nearing completion in Bjabchho Gewog, Chhukha, following a community-led investment of over Nu 40 million. The project is approximately 90 per cent complete and is expected to be finished within the next few months.

The new structure is being built adjacent to the existing Bjabchho Community Temple to replace an ageing facility that has suffered from deterioration and earthquake damage. Residents and local officials noted that the old temple, which dates back to the 17th century, had developed cracks in its walls and lacked sufficient space to accommodate the community during religious events and funeral rites.

Funding for the construction was provided through contributions from the gewog, hundreds of local households, and the Chhukha Hydropower Corporation. The new temple aims to provide a safer and more spacious hub for the spiritual and social needs of the community.
