Saša Micev convicted in US for attempting to broker North Korean missile sales

Saša Micev, a 43-year-old international arms dealer and citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina, has been convicted in the United States for attempting to broker the illegal sale of North Korean weaponry.

Micev pleaded guilty to violating the International Emergency Economic Powers Act and North Korean sanctions regulations. According to the US Department of Justice, he conspired to purchase SA-18 Igla shoulder-launched, man-portable air-defense systems (MANPADS) from North Korea without the necessary licenses or approvals from the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).

Court documents reveal that in 2020, Micev and a co-conspirator from New Mexico discussed the unlawful acquisition of the missiles, which included providing pricing information and using falsified documentation. The pair traveled to Ankara, Turkey, to finalize the deal, but the transaction failed following a price dispute with the North Korean suppliers.

Micev, who was previously a co-owner of the now-bankrupt Balkan Security Tech Group (BSTG) based in Banja Luka, has been sentenced to 60 months in federal prison.
