BJP accuses opposition of undermining India's electoral roll revision

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has publicly criticised the opposition alliance for sending a letter to Chief Justice Surya Kant that it says seeks to create fear about the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and to undermine democratic institutions. BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi described the move as politically motivated misinformation aimed at eroding public confidence in the voter‑verification exercise.

In Karnataka, BJP state president B Y Vijayendra and senior leaders lodged a formal complaint with the Election Commission, alleging that the state government is obstructing the SIR process by misusing Booth Level Officers. The party claims officials are being redirected to community halls, mosques and MLA offices instead of carrying out the door‑to‑door verification mandated by the revision exercise. The BJP has urged the Election Commission to intervene and ensure the roll‑revision proceeds according to procedure.
