BJP alleges fraud in Telangana electoral roll digitisation as CEO seeks ECI guidance

BJP leader Marri Shashidhar Reddy submitted a memorandum to Telangana’s Chief Electoral Officer, C. Sudarshan Reddy, alleging that Booth Level Officers in the Serilingampally constituency uploaded only the blank back side of enumeration forms to the official mobile app. The party says this practice was used to inflate digitalisation completion metrics during the Special Intensive Review (SIR) of electoral rolls, and it has requested an independent audit, disciplinary action and a re‑verification of the forms.

In a related development, the Chief Electoral Officer has written to Election Commission of India Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar seeking clarification on the state government's decision to issue Family Register Certificates (FRC) to ration‑card holders amid the SIR. The BJP opposes the move, accusing the state of protecting illegal vote banks. Officials note that 76.28% of the 2.58 crore enumeration forms have been digitised statewide, but Hyderabad trails at under 55%. The SIR began on June 25, will run until August 3, and the draft electoral roll is slated for publication on August 10.
