BJP announces candidates for Jaipur Municipal Corporation elections

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has released its candidate list for the 2026 Jaipur Municipal Corporation elections, covering the majority of the 150 wards. To mitigate potential internal rebellion, the party maintained strict confidentiality, informing candidates via telephone late Sunday night after marathon deliberations involving Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and other senior leaders.

In a strategic move to expand its social footprint, the BJP has fielded eight Muslim candidates, representing approximately 5.3 percent of its total tickets. This includes nominations in general category seats, such as Shahnawaz Ansari in Ward 19, aimed at challenging the traditional support base of the Congress party.

Notable among the candidates is former Jaipur Mayor Jyoti Khandelwal, who has been given a ticket to contest a ward-level councillor seat. Other prominent figures identified as potential mayoral contenders following the election include Sunil Kothari, Vimal Agrawal, Shailendra Bhargav, Puneet Karnawat, and Jyoti Khandelwal.

While most candidates have been finalized, the party is still deliberating on approximately five wards. Meanwhile, in the Baran district, the lack of official lists from major parties has led to some candidates filing nominations as independents on the final day of the process.
