BJP announces solo contest for West Bengal civic elections

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced it will contest the upcoming municipal elections in West Bengal, including the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) and Howrah, independently. Central Minister Dr. Sukanta Majumdar confirmed the party intends to contest all 209 wards of the KMC on its own, distancing itself from its NDA ally, the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI), at the local level.

Senior BJP leader Rahul Sinha clarified that the alliance with the NCPI exists only at the parliamentary level and does not extend to municipal elections. Additionally, Bengal BJP chief Shamik Bhattacharya dismissed rumors regarding the party providing tickets to former Trinamool Congress (TMC) councillors.

In Kalimpong, the BJP has intensified its preparations by opening an election office at Dambar Chowk to manage organizational activities for the upcoming municipal polls. The inauguration was attended by Darjeeling District BJP President Sanjeev Lama and other local leaders.
