BJP Candidate Leads Falta Assembly Repoll, Says Diamond Harbour Model Collapsed

In the Falta Assembly constituency of West Bengal, a repoll held on May 21 showed BJP candidate Debangshu Panda ahead after the 19th of 21 counting rounds, with a reported total of 137,473 votes. BJP officials linked the lead to growing support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the influence of state leader Suvendu Adhikari.

The counting trend placed Trinamool Congress nominee Jahangir Khan in fourth place with just 5,914 votes, while CPI(M) candidate Sambhu Nath Kurmi and Congress candidate Abdur Razzak Molla trailed. The repoll, conducted under tight security, took place in the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha constituency area, which is represented in Parliament by Trinamool leader Abhishek Banerjee. BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari posted on X celebrating the result and declaring the “Diamond Harbour Model” collapsed.

The event reflects ongoing political competition in West Bengal ahead of future elections, with both parties emphasizing voter sentiment and regional leadership.
