BJP considers restructuring Parliamentary Board with new leadership

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is considering a significant restructuring of its 12-member Parliamentary Board, the party’s highest decision-making body. The potential revamp, expected around August 30, aims to incorporate younger leadership and may include three to four serving chief ministers.

Prominent names under discussion include Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. West Bengal’s Suvendu Adhikari has also been mentioned. Reports suggest the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is advocating for the induction of these leaders, particularly Fadnavis, to represent a ‘Gen-Next’ shift in national politics.

The reshuffle carries strategic weight as the board is responsible for recommending candidates for prime minister and chief minister positions. The changes come ahead of various state assembly elections scheduled for 2027 and 2028, as well as the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. Current board members include Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and JP Nadda, though speculation exists regarding Nadda’s potential replacement to accommodate new members.
