BJP demands probe into Congress protest in Shimla
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Himachal Pradesh has called for an investigation into a recent Congress party protest in Shimla. The controversy stems from a September 25 demonstration outside the Election Department office regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
BJP Himachal Pradesh President Dr. Rajeev Bindal accused the ruling Congress government of promoting lawlessness and political intimidation. He demanded an impartial probe into allegations of damage to public property, including the burning of effigies, wall writing, and damage to a police vehicle. Bindal urged the government to use CCTV footage and other evidence to hold those responsible accountable.
BJP spokesperson and MLA Rakesh Jamwal also criticized the protest, specifically citing the defacement of Election Department premises with slogans such as ‘Vote Chor’. Jamwal stated that while political parties have the right to protest, defacing government property raises serious questions about the conduct of the ruling party. He called for strict legal action against any violations of public property laws, regardless of political affiliation.
