BJP Demands Strict EPIC ID Verification After Fake Voting Allegations in Bihar's Bankipur By‑Election

On July 30, 2026, during the Bankipur assembly by‑election in Bihar, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alleged attempts at fraudulent voting. State General Secretary Nitin Abhishek wrote to the Returning Officer, urging rigorous verification of voters' EPIC ID and name matching. The party claimed that representatives and workers of the Jan Suraj party were inserting fake votes, threatening the fairness of the election. In his letter, Abhishek said, “It has come to our notice that representatives and workers … are trying to cast fake votes and undermine the integrity of the voting process.” The BJP also asked the Election Commission to enforce stricter verification rules. A clash between BJP and Jan Suraj workers was reported outside a polling station in Kidwai‑puri, with police intervening and tension rising in the area. Voting began at 7 am and continued amid these concerns.
