BJP to launch drug-free Punjab campaign on September 18

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is launching a massive state-wide outreach program in Punjab titled ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’ (Drug-Free Punjab Yatra). Scheduled to begin on September 18, the campaign aims to address the state’s drug crisis, law and order, and governance issues ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.

The campaign will feature high-profile leadership. BJP National President Nitin Nabin is set to launch the journey from Pathankot. Other scheduled participants include Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta in Fatehgarh Sahib, Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal in Fazilka, and Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in Bathinda.

The initiative has drawn criticism from opposition leaders. Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa accused both the state and central governments of using the drug crisis for political point-scoring rather than dismantling supply chains. Bajwa argued that both the ruling Aam Aadmi Party and the BJP are avoiding accountability for the ongoing drug menace in the region.
