BJP launches Samrasta Sankalp Abhiyan for Guru Ravidas’ 650th birth anniversary
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced a nationwide "Samrasta Sankalp Abhiyan" beginning on 29 July 2026 and running until 20 February 2027 to commemorate the 650th birth anniversary of Sant Guru Ravidas. The campaign, guided by the party's national leadership, will feature a series of events promoting equality, social harmony and justice.
Key activities include a Deep Mahotsav lighting lamps at Guru Ravidas temples across Punjab, a Kalash Vandan programme that will transport a sacred urn of holy soil from Seer Govardhanpur in Varanasi to temples throughout the state between July 29 and 10 September, and a month‑long Yatra from Dera Sach Khand Ballan in Jalandhar to Varanasi from 5 October to 5 November. Additional outreach such as social‑harmony programmes, temple events and community langars will continue through February 2027.
Haryana plans a year‑long state celebration in 2027 for the same anniversary, forming a high‑level committee and sending a delegation to Varanasi to receive a ceremonial Kalash. In Uttarakhand, the BJP is using the campaign to court the Dalit vote ahead of the 2027 state elections, focusing on 107 local Ravidas temples. Senior party leaders including BJP national president Nitin Nabin, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath and Prime Minister Narendra Modi (who flagged off the Sant Ravidas Express) are expected to participate in the events.
