BJP leaders blame opposition of weakening democratic institutions and abusing residency permits
BJP Uttar Pradesh chief Pankaj Chaudhary said the opposition repeatedly targets constitutional bodies such as the Election Commission, the Enforcement Directorate and the CBI in an effort to weaken India's democracy. He also highlighted flood problems in border areas near Nepal and urged cooperation with Nepal to address the issue.
In Karnataka, senior BJP figure R. Ashok accused the state government of hijacking the Special Interview Register (SIR) process to issue permanent residence certificates to non‑citizens, claiming the move threatens national security and should be halted immediately. He argued that the power to grant citizenship rests with the centre and warned of communal tensions if the practice continues.
