BJP leaders join viral 1980s social media trend

Several Indian political leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have participated in a viral social media trend recreating 1980s aesthetics.

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal shared an AI-generated photograph on Instagram and X featuring a retro look with a blue suit and sunglasses, captioning it, ‘Vibing to the 80s trend’. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju also joined the trend, posting a photograph styled after 1980s Bollywood cinema. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also shared a retro-inspired image using oversized sunglasses and era-specific clothing.
