BJP unveils development plan and expels rebels in Silchar

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has unveiled its 11-point development roadmap, titled ‘Unnata Silchar, Samriddha Assam’, ahead of the Silchar Municipal Corporation election on October 3. Assam BJP President Dilip Saikia stated the plan aims to transform Silchar into a planned, secure, and green city by addressing issues such as waterlogging, inadequate drinking water, poor road networks, and traffic congestion. The roadmap also includes provisions for coaching facilities for youth and support services for women and senior citizens.

Simultaneously, the state BJP has taken disciplinary action against internal dissenters. The party has expelled 12 members who filed nominations as independent candidates against official party nominees and suspended four others for anti-party activities. One rebel candidate, Sanghita Chakrabarty, has challenged the party, alleging that some nominees fail to meet the mandatory educational qualifications required by the Assam Municipal Corporation Act, a claim Saikia has denied.
