BJP Wins Majority in West Bengal Assembly Election, Trinamool MLA Hospitalized

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a comfortable majority in the 2026 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election, projected to win well over the 148‑seat threshold needed to form government. The result ends the 15‑year rule of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and is described as a decisive consolidation of Hindu voter support, with campaign slogans such as “Jai Shri Ram” and regional devotional phrases boosting the BJP’s appeal.

Despite the party’s overall defeat, veteran TMC legislator Madan Mitra retained his Kamarhati seat. He was admitted to a South Kolkata hospital with urinary problems and reported mental stress following the party’s loss. Hospital sources say his condition is stable and he is expected to be discharged in the coming days.
