Björk announces live album with Hamrahlíð Choir
Musician Björk has announced the release of ‘Björk Orkestral With The Hamrahlíð Choir’, a live recording captured on October 24, 2021, at Harpa in Reykjavik. The performance features approximately 50 voices from the Hamrahlíð Choir, directed by Þorgerður Ingólfsdóttir, and focuses heavily on material from her 2004 album Medúlla, alongside arrangements of tracks from Vespertine, Homogenic, Biophilia, and Volta.
The release, scheduled for November 27 via One Little Independent, will be available on vinyl, CD, DVD, and Blu-ray, though no digital edition has been announced. The original concerts were intended to raise funds for Kvennaathvarfið, a women’s shelter in Reykjavik.
In a separate reflection on musical influences, Björk shared a selection of 13 influential albums, ranging from experimental pop and hip-hop to classical works. Her list includes artists such as Kate Bush, Joni Mitchell, Public Enemy, and Aphex Twin, as well as classical compositions by Steve Reich, Gustav Mahler, and Alban Berg. She specifically noted the influence of Kate Bush and commented on the shifting cultural perceptions of female artists.
