Björk presents new retrospective at National Gallery of Iceland

Following a critically mixed retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, Icelandic musician Björk is hosting a new exhibition at the National Gallery of Iceland in her hometown of Reykjavik.

The new exhibition aims to provide a more cohesive and interactive experience than her previous MoMA survey. One featured installation, ‘Nerve Bloom’, utilizes a collaboration between Björk and artists Natalia Kleszczewska and Natalie Liu. The work combines 3D graphics, digital displays, and sound to create a psychedelic, hybrid environment of plantlike and humanoid figures.

While the MoMA exhibition was criticized for lacking depth and perspective, the Reykjavik show focuses on ‘sonic symbolism’—the concept of making sound visual—to create a stronger emotional connection with the audience.
