BKK completes ticket machine upgrade as Hungarian banks announce maintenance
Budapest's public transport provider, BKK, has completed a major modernization of its ticket and pass machine network. The upgrade, finished in mid-August 2026, involved the installation of 37 new machines with large displays and the full refurbishment of 280 existing units to improve reliability and speed. The network, which has processed over 164 million transactions, remains accessible to visually impaired users through audio navigation.
Simultaneously, several Hungarian banks have announced scheduled system maintenance that will temporarily disrupt services. OTP Bank will perform maintenance on its card payment system on August 25, affecting terminal and online transactions, as well as cash withdrawals. Additionally, its Persely service will be unavailable on August 30. MBH Bank has also scheduled several outages throughout late August and early September, impacting mobile app functions, SMS two-factor authentication for brokers, and netbank services.
