BKP and AKEL leaders meet to discuss Cyprus issue

Leaders of the United Cyprus Party (BKP) and AKEL met at the AKEL headquarters to discuss developments regarding the Cyprus issue and potential cooperation between the two parties. The meeting was led by BKP Chairman İzzet İzcan and AKEL General Secretary Stefanos Stefanu.

Following the meeting, İzzet İzcan expressed deep concern over the stagnation of the Cyprus issue. He criticized recent negotiations between leaders, stating they have failed to reach even basic agreements. İzcan called for a focus on the core of the Cyprus problem, emphasizing that a solution cannot be reached without direct negotiations. He advocated for the simultaneous implementation of confidence-building measures and substantive talks.

İzcan criticized the preconditions set by Tufan Erhürman, arguing they hinder progress and allow opponents of a solution in South Cyprus to hide behind a facade of peace. He urged for the public disclosure of proposals and called on all parties to assist UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in his mediation efforts based on Security Council resolutions.
