BKSAP DPR RI raises concerns over Muslim minorities in India
During the 153rd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) session in Arusha, Tanzania, the Indonesian House of Representatives' Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) raised concerns regarding the treatment of Muslim minorities in India.
Syahrul Aidi Maazat, Chairman of BKSAP, noted that international human rights reports have documented discrimination, intimidation, and violence against Muslim communities in India. These reports include instances of the demolition of homes, property, and places of worship. Maazat urged parliaments in Muslim-majority nations to call upon the Indian government to respect human rights, religious freedom, and minority rights.
In addition to the situation in India, the BKSAP also highlighted humanitarian issues in Palestine and Sudan during the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) meeting.
