BKSAP DPR RI urges universities to strengthen Indonesia's global diplomacy

Habib Aboe Bakar Alhabsyi, a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives' Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP), is encouraging higher education institutions to play a more significant role in strengthening Indonesia's parliamentary diplomacy.

During visits to Universitas Muhammadiyah Tangerang (UMT) and Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) in Tangerang, Alhabsyi emphasized the need for academic support to navigate complex global dynamics. He noted that international issues such as artificial intelligence, the climate crisis, global trade dynamics, and Indonesia's OECD accession process require objective data and scientific backing.

Alhabsyi proposed that universities contribute through evidence-based research and the production of concise policy briefs. These documents would serve as practical analytical tools for BKSAP members before they participate in international inter-parliamentary forums, such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) or the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA).
