Béla Réthy criticizes Union Berlin football style

Former ZDF commentator Béla Réthy has sharply criticized the playing style of Union Berlin, describing it as “torture” and the most unattractive football he has seen in the Bundesliga for a long time. Speaking on the “Stammplatz” podcast, Réthy noted that while the team's defensive play is acceptable, the overall performance is unappealing.

Union Berlin currently sits in 17th place in the Bundesliga after seven matches, struggling with one of the league's weakest attacks. The club also recently suffered a 0:5 defeat against FC Köln in the second round of the DFB-Pokal. Despite the criticism, the team under coach Mauro Lustrinelli has remained undefeated in their last three matches, including a 0:0 draw against Borussia Dortmund.
