Black Bear acquires worldwide rights to Laika’s ‘Atmosphere’

Black Bear has acquired the worldwide rights to ‘Atmosphere’, a live-action feature film from Laika. The company will also co-finance the project and serve as the international sales agent.

Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, the film is an adaptation of the bestselling novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid. The story is set during NASA’s Space Shuttle program in the 1980s and follows a brilliant young astronaut named Joan and her colleague Vanessa. The plot centers on the bond between the astronauts and their struggle for survival following a catastrophe during their missions.

This project marks one of Laika’s initial ventures into live-action filmmaking. Black Bear will handle the film's release in the United States and its other territories.
