Black bear enters Colorado Springs home through open door

A black bear entered a home in Colorado Springs on July 21, causing a disturbance for a local family. The animal entered through a back door that had been left open to allow for a breeze during hot temperatures.

Security camera footage captured the bear eating food from a kitchen table and consuming vitamins left on the table. The bear then dragged a trash can outside to rummage through it. The family, including three young children, was alerted to the presence of the animal by a loud noise. The bear was eventually scared away by the father and the 8-year-old daughter, Zara Lee, who made noise and opened the door.

Reports indicate that bears have been entering homes across the United States in increased numbers following a dry winter that depleted natural food sources such as plants, grasses, berries, and nuts.
