Black bear rescued in Saltillo, later appears at Ultra Coahuila race

Authorities in Coahuila rescued a male black bear estimated at two years old and 60 kg from a tree in the urban area of the Cuautla ejido, Saltillo, with assistance from the Museum of the Desert. The safe capture was announced by the state Secretariat of the Environment to protect both residents and the animal.

A few days earlier, a black bear had surprised participants in the Ultra Coahuila trail race in the municipality of Arteaga, running alongside the course before stopping at a trash bin and then disappearing into vegetation. The incident was widely shared on social media.

The state notes that black bears are present across much of northern Mexico, with frequent sightings in the mountain ranges of Coahuila, especially around Múzquiz, Saltillo and Arteaga.
